At U Ethical, we know that investing isn’t just about financial returns—it’s about investing in companies that are striving to do better. Since 1985, we’ve been helping investors grow their wealth while ensuring their money works towards a more sustainable world.
As a proud B Corp, we are part of a global community of nearly 10,000 businesses committed to balancing profit with purpose. This certification reflects our dedication to transparency, accountability, and making a positive impact – because we believe that ethical investing is the key to long-term financial success.
What is a B Corp?
To become a certified B Corp, a company must undertake a rigorous certification process by submitting a B Impact Assessment. Businesses must score at least 80 points out of a possible 250 across five ‘impact’ areas in the assessment:
Points are earned when an organisation’s practices have some form of positive impact on the environment or society. This could range from transparency in our reporting and integrating ESG into our investment process, to our workplace policies and community impact. In our latest B Impact Assessment, U Ethical earned an overall score of 131. A full breakdown of our score is available here.
Certification isn’t just about what a company does—it’s about how it does it. B Corps commit to balancing profit with purpose, ensuring long-term, sustainable growth that benefits not just shareholders, but society as a whole.
What being a B Corp means for U Ethical
We embody the B Corp principles—leveraging capital for both financial returns and social responsibility. We achieve this through:
- Investing ethically: We take a high-conviction approach to equity investing, carefully avoiding or minimising exposure to industries and companies that pose significant environmental, social, or governance (ESG) risks. This approach reduces ESG-related risks and positions portfolios for resilience in an evolving world.
- Stewardship approach: We actively engage with companies to promote long-term value creation, advocate for stronger ESG practices, and hold businesses accountable. By using our influence as investors, we encourage responsible corporate behaviour, ensuring that the companies we invest in are not only financially sound but also aligned with long-term sustainability and ethical leadership.
- Indirectly supporting communities: As a not-for-profit, our operating surplus supports the Uniting Church, which through Uniting, is one of Australia’s largest non-government community service providers. The better we perform, the more we give back—supporting programs that positively impact thousands of Australians every day.
How ethical investing creates value for investors
We believe that strong financial outcomes and ethical investing go hand in hand. By actively choosing investments that contribute to climate action, responsible corporate leadership, and social progress, we help investors grow their wealth in a way that is both profitable and purposeful.
Investors today seek alignment with their values, without compromising on returns. Ethical investing is no longer niche; it’s a strategic way to manage risk, drive long-term value, and contribute to meaningful change.
Through our ethical investment approach, stewardship activities and community support U Ethical drives meaningful improvements. Our mission is clear: to deliver strong financial outcomes while fostering responsible and sustainable growth.
